God’s Original Intent for Humanity

When people are asked, “Why were we created?”, the quick response is often: “To worship God.” And while worship is indeed a beautiful and natural overflow of the heart toward its Creator, the Scriptures reveal something deeper about God’s original intent for humanity.
From the very beginning, God’s design for mankind was not centered on rituals or acts of worship. His purpose was larger, more tangible, and far-reaching: He designed us to govern and steward creation in union with Him.
Humanity’s First Mandate
In Genesis, the first words spoken over humanity were not to sing or bow. Instead, they were words of governance:
“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’” — Genesis 1:26
Notice the order here. Before Adam and Eve ever lifted a song, God blessed them with a calling: to govern, to cultivate, to multiply, to steward creation in harmony with Him.
Picture Adam walking among the trees, naming the animals, and cultivating the soil. This was governance. This was humanity’s original worship; living as God’s image-bearers by stewarding His creation in love.
The earth was never meant to be something we endure until escape. It was entrusted to us as a kingdom to love and govern.

God's Original Intent Restored in Christ
Though humanity surrendered God's original intent by not heeding God’s warning about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Jesus came to restore what was lost. Isaiah foresaw this reality:
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder…” — Isaiah 9:6
Notice this: the government, the rule, the dominion of God, rests on Jesus’ shoulders. And because we are His body (His shoulders), this government rests upon us.
Daniel echoed the same vision when he prophesied:
“But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, forever and ever.” — Daniel 7:18
Jesus declared this governance in His ministry:
“Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” — Matthew 18:18
Binding and loosing isn’t about religious formulas, it’s about exercising kingdom governance on earth in alignment with heaven.
John the Revelator picked up this same theme:
“…Jesus has made us a kings and priests to God” — Revelation 1:6
“…and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” — Revelation 5:10
Not someday. Not after death. Not in heaven. On the earth. The role of kingship (governance) and priesthood (union with God) belong to us now in Christ.
Creation Groans for Our Place
Paul said creation itself is waiting for us to take our rightful place:
“For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.” — Romans 8:19
The earth does not long for its destruction but for its redemption through the manifestation of God’s sons and daughters who govern in love.
This ties into the promise given to Abraham, which Paul connects to us:
“For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.” — Romans 4:13
Through Christ, we inherit the world itself.
God’s Good Gift
Life itself is God’s gift. From the very beginning He called creation good, and humanity very good (Genesis 1:31). The earth is not evil, nor is it a place to endure until we can escape. It is God’s territory, His creation, entrusted to us.
Jesus affirmed this when He said:
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” — Luke 12:32
We do not claw our way toward a distant heaven. Heaven’s kingdom has been freely given to us, even one with us. We are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14), the ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), and the stewards of creation.

A Call to Take Your Place
Don’t call evil what God has called good. Don’t despise the earth or long to flee it when God has entrusted it to you. Don’t neglect your place as a king and priest in His kingdom.
The testimony of Scripture resounds:
“He has made us kings and priests to our God, and we shall reign on the earth.” — Revelation 5:10
“The government shall be upon His shoulders.” — Isaiah 9:6
“Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven…” — Matthew 18:18
“It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” — Luke 12:32
“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness.” — 2 Peter 1:3
You were not placed here to suffer through life, nor to beg for escape. You were placed here to govern, to bring light, and to manifest the kingdom of God in the earth.
God's kingdom is now. It is here. And it is within you.
Step Into Your Place
You were not created to shrink back, nor to wait idly for escape. You were designed to govern. Not with domination, but with divine partnership. Not in striving, but from the place of union with Him.
This governance begins in intimacy. Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and I in you” (John 15:4). From that abiding place, where you intimately know Him and He fills every part of you, the rivers of living water begin to flow.
“Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” — John 7:38
And As the Book of Revelation puts it, those rivers are pouring from the throne of God and of the Lamb, bringing healing to the nations and life wherever they touch (Revelation 22:1-2).
This is how we govern: not by human effort, but through the fruit of union with Him. Intimacy produces life, and from that life, everything entrusted to us flourishes. When you live from intimacy, your family flourishes. Your work flourishes. Your community flourishes. Creation itself is touched by the life of God flowing through you.
So step into your place. Govern the space God has given you. Walk as a king and a priest unto the Lord. Let His rivers flow through you and watch the earth around you come alive.
Because when heaven’s governance flows through union, everything flourishes.
